Chair yoga is an accessible approach to sharing the benefits of yoga with people who have limited mobility.
I started teaching chair yoga for trauma sensitive yoga classes. Being in the chair takes away a lot of the idea about achieving a particular shape in relation to a pose offered and instead lets us focus more closely on our experience and develop interoception -- the felt sense of an experience. I have also taught chair yoga to cardiac rehab patients who need to be sure not to perform some movements, but who also really need to move. Breathing, meditation, and relaxation therapies are all fully accessible in chair yoga.
